THE 15th MARS ROCK IS NAMED AFTER LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

Classified as a basaltic shergottite.

Some time ago, slices were cut from the main mass of the Los Angeles Mars-rock Meteorite for donation to researchers. During the process of saw-cutting these "slices", a number of small fragments crumbled away from the stone while under the pressure of the cutting blade. These "saw-cuttings" are of no immediate use by the researchers, so that makes them available to meteorite collectors. When the researchers were finished with their studies, some of the slices were returned to me, as well.

"Saw-cuttings" are the waste fragments that are produced when a rock is cut by a diamond blade on a rock saw. These fragments/particles/part-slices are not intentionally produced, but are accidently formed when a rock crumbles while it is being sliced by a rock saw. For this reason, as well as, the fact that these part-slices, and endcuts, and other odd-shaped fragments were not intentionally cut to be specimens for collectors, they are being sold "as-is". They are being sold as "micro-mounts" secured within "membrane boxes". Because they are friable, they are being sold "as-is" and are not being sold by weight.
All of this is reflected in the VERY LOW "as-is price" set for each saw-cut specimen.
